I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of Your Lordship's despatch No.326 dated the 17th of December, 1929, requesting me to furnish you with
information sought by Dr. Morgan on the subject of
orphanage accommodation in this Colony, and in reply to inform you that the institutions which are utilized for
the accommodation of uitsai are two in number.
these the chief is the Po Leung Kuk, the history and constitution of which is given in the enclosed note. This institution can provide temporary homes for about
seventy persons. The residence of girls in the Kuk is usually of a short duration, since, as the note indicates, efforts are always made to find homes for them, with relatives or other suitable persons, as soon as possible. At present there are thirty-six persons in the Kuk,
of whom thirteen are uitsai. During the year 1929,
fifty-two uitsai were admitted, and in 1930, up to
March 25th sixteen were admitted.

The second institution which from time to time
receives uitsai at the request of the Secretary for
Chinese Affairs is the Victoria Home and Orphanage, under
